Austrians are afraid that the famous green lake (Gruener See, Grüner-Ze) will change its unique emerald color and become muddy because of the tourists who make it necessary. Residents of neighboring settlements require limit the number of visitors to the reservoir.

Lake is located at the foot of the Hochshwab mountains at an altitude of 776 m above sea level, near the village of Tragos. The depth of emerald green reservoir since the end of summer and until spring does not exceed one or two meters, the locals love to relax. During the rest of the time, due to the melting of snow in the mountains, the water fills his pool and covers including arranged bushes, benches and bridges.

A unique reservoir attracts thousands of tourists, in 2015 more than 100 thousand travelers visited here. Some of them plunged into the water, the temperature of which usually does not exceed seven degrees.

From January 1 of this year, a new rule entered into force, in accordance with which bathing in the lake is prohibited. However, a group of locals believes that the unique natural system is threatened with danger, and requires limiting the number of visitors sights. In their opinion, the lake can change color due to lack of toilets in the vicinity. The second reason can be the spread of algae, they say.
