American scientists looked inside the tornado

The model is built on radar data collected during a real tornado, which devastated the city of Moore in Oklahoma in May 2013. The background for virtual elements is the digital version of the Oklahoma map. Sessions are held in a unique four-story Virtual Theater of Virginia Polytechnic University. To view, you need to wear a special headset OCULUS RIFT. The invention of scientists allows a person to walk inside the tornado and examine what is happening from the inside from a height of 2.1 m, which gives to feel a giant. During the session, you can see the layers of rain and explore its structure: red rain zones are marked, yellow – less intensive precipitation.

The developers of the 3D model of Tornado – Bill Carstensen and his colleagues from Virginia University – hope that their invention will help to better understand how tornadoes behave. In the future, the command plans to update radar data in real time so that emergency specialists can monitor the storm and its development with a delay in just a few minutes, reports the NEW SCIENTIST edition.

Tornado in Mero 2013, which became the prototype for the invention, was not the most destructive in the history of the United States, however, in size, strength and duration became among the largest. This storm caused the cause of the death of 24 people, destroyed the hospital and two schools in which lessons were going.
