Air transportation in Greece

Internal air communication perfectly developed. Two main airlines – Olympic Air and Aegean Airlines – perform regular flights throughout the country, including most of the islands. The cost of flights was generally decreased in recent years due to competition growth. On average, it corresponds from 50-60 euros from Athens in Thessaloniki to 70-80 euros from Athens to Rhodes or Crete. However, quite often a variety of promotions and ticket sales are held, when the cost falls more than twice. Not uncommon when you manage to buy a ticket for internal flights at a price not exceeding 25 euros one way. Great importance is seasonality. In addition, some lines are subsidized and their prices are relatively low (20-30 euros) and do not change throughout the year, for example, Rhodes – Megist, Athens – Lesbos, Carpathos – Athens.

The highest rates in the summer, the holiday season, when the cost of flights is higher than usual by 25-30%. Significant discounts can be found buying tickets across the sites of the airlines mentioned by credit card. While the National Carrier, Olympic Air, rarely shows the flexibility of tariffs, the second largest company, Aegian, offers tickets for very convenient prices.
