Activities on Mayotte
Mayotte is the oldest in geological plan from all Comoro Islands, so the age of surrounding its coral reef reaches 30-40 million years. Even outwardly, they are very different from the usual image of reef – more massive and short, in some places they smoothly switch to a whole system of underwater caves and canyons, which makes them unusually attractive for divers. In contrast, a sufficiently scarce terrestrial fauna, the island is often called the present "Underwater Park of the Jurassic", What is explained by a large number of rare species of fish and sea crustaceans who inhabit coastal waters. Many of them, such as the famous Lathemeria, live here for hundreds of millions of years and are no longer found anywhere on Earth.
Mayotte is also a popular place for sports fishing, but fish fishing is quite expensive, and for external equipment reefs, it is also not easy enough – the depths are large here, and the sea fauna is quite specific. But snorkeling along the inside of the reefs can be considered one of the best in the region. Despite the relatively weakly developed infrastructure of the seafood, most of the hotels and tour operators of the island offer dive tours directly in the general packages of their services.
The island is also famous for numerous lavva fields and chaos rocks, magnificent scenery and, like all Comoros, is an unusually huge and bright moon (because of the beauty of which Arab sources and gave these islands their name), picturesque bays and beaches – small, but very "Cozy".
